The Xiao lab consists of two wet chemistry labs and one instrument room. The wet labs are outfitted for both routine and air/moisture-free chemical synthesis. We have three gloveboxes (one double and two single boxes), a solvent purification system, rotary evaporator, synthesis ovens, muffle furnace, and eight fume hoods with custom Schlenk lines. On the characterization side, we have state-of-the-art gas sorption equipment, a benchtop powder X-ray diffractometer, a thermogravimetric analyzer, and a polarized light microscope equipped with a variable temperature hot stage. In addition to shared facilities in the Dept. of Chemistry, we also take advantage of instrumentation in the Molecular Analysis Facility and the Washington Clean Energy Testbeds.

CHB 314 houses the bulk of our instrumentation (TGA and gas sorption equipment) as well as a muffle furnace, two single boxes, and a solvent purification system.
Our new Vigor double box, which we will use to synthesize air and moisture-sensitive compounds. The glovebox is equipped with a stirring/hot plate and a dry block heater for solvothermal syntheses. It also has a freezer and cold well.
We inherited two gloveboxes from the Heinekey lab. One is a VAC glovebox that we use as a dry (solvent-free) box. The other is an MBraun glovebox which we have converted into a water box for hydrothermal syntheses of air-sensitive compounds.
